About
What’s there to say? I grew up wanting to be a fighter pilot in the RAAF, and in my final year of high school made it down to the final 20 from about 5,000 applicants. They took the top six. I was so devastated that I’d failed in my dream that I sought solace in the hospitality industry for a time (yes, I was that depressed), until I’d earned enough money to make my way overseas. That’s right, I was an 18 year old backpacker in Western Europe.
After three months I ran out of money and made my way home, but not before I’d discovered a love of writing. After three years at uni and some extra time looking for work, I finally fooled someone into believing in me enough to give me the rather sweet position of Staff Writer at Australian T3 magazine. And although it was a bumpy ride, I eventually ended up editing the mag for about 18 months before taking the reigns at the Australian version of Gizmodo almost five years later.
I’ve written for a number of publications – Rolling Stone, Digital Camera Essentials, Roam, Paperplane, MTV Screen, The Official Windows Vista Magazine, GamePro, The Official Playstation 2 Magazine and a few others that I’m sure I’ve forgotten all about. My focus is obviously consumer technology – I’ve developed a crazy love for technology that has the potential to change worlds. Well not quite, but I was always accused of being a bit hyperbolic.
Outside of the work world, I’m a happily married man since March 2008, and my lovely wife and I are proud parents to a mischievous Golden Retriever named Simba. I’m a rugby union fan who’s still waiting for the NSW Waratahs to actually win a Super 14 title (2009′s our year), and I’ve recently begun the enjoyable process of brewing my own beer.
This blog will be a combination of pretty much everything and anything, but it will represent my opinions only – it’s a personal blog, so don’t take everything I say too literally. I’m told I have a weird sense of humour…
Cheers
Nick
